Technologies to transform the building sector
Slipstream evaluates and champions technologies that lead to cleaner, healthier buildings. Electrification empowers cleaner ways to heat and cool our spaces, cook our food, and dry our clothes. We evaluate the products and strategies that will enable everyone to lead more comfortable lives in buildings of every type, age, and size.
Commercial electrification
Heating and cooling technologies such as variable refrigerant flow (VRF) present a viable path to big energy savings in the most energy-intensive building sector. Through field demonstrations, pilots, programs, and tech transfer we prove and scale commercial building electrification.
Air-source heat pumps
Heat pumps are a revolution in HVAC—even in cold climates. We drive ASHP market adoption through programs, education, and financing to inspire more installers to put more heat pumps in more homes.

Grid-interactive efficient buildings
We research, test, and educate about GEBs, the smart building innovations that turn buildings into assets on the grid.
Programs to electrify homes and buildings
It’s one thing to identify clean technologies. It’s another to get them in our buildings. We find ways to expand electrification quickly, whether it’s improving the efficiency of existing buildings or expanding the number of new, zero-energy buildings in our communities.
Our programs cover:
Demand management for a smarter, more efficient grid
We prepare for more renewables on the grid with smarter demand management and flexibility strategies. Tactics such as load shifting and demand response (DR) ease the stress on the grid, while tools such as expanded storage and batteries or onsite renewable generation make buildings more self-sufficient.
Transportation electrification
Electrifying the transportation sector turns our roads into green pathways. We develop market transformation programming and build coalitions for electric vehicle adoption.
Technical assistance to policy leaders
Policymakers and community leaders can achieve carbon savings goals with the right strategies to reduce emissions. Our experts provide the technical assistance and practical guidance to improve building performance, inspire electrification, and expand electric vehicles.
