Pathways to residential electrification in Indigenous communities
As states and utilities plan to deploy heat pumps across the Midwest, any equitable rollout of electrification must include Native Nations.
On behalf of the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Slipstream will develop a case study to demonstrate cost-effective pathways to electrifying homes with two different Indigenous communities in Minnesota.
The project will ultimately create two resource guides—one for tribal governance boards to assist them in scaling up electrification efforts and one for tribal community members that provides information about weatherization services and forthcoming federal funding opportunities to promote heat pump deployment.
This research was made possible by a grant from the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources through the Conservation Applied Research and Development (CARD) program, which is funded by Minnesota ratepayers.
