Michigan Heat Pump Collaborative Market Characterization

As an early first step to understanding the market need for heat pump technologies, four investor-owned utilities in Michigan joined to found the Michigan Heat Pump Collaborative (MIHPC). The purpose of MIHPC is to lead the Midwest with heat pump technology market transformation strategies and remove barriers to widespread adoption of heat pumps.

This report contains market research and a needs assessment to inform the development of several of the Collaborative's key initiatives:

• Utility programs and rebate offerings that offset the initial capital expense and higher costs of heat pump installations.
• Contractor education on proper heat pump applications, rate navigation, and business model adaptation.
