Slipstream contributes to ambitious U.S. DOE initiative advancing productivity and resilience in the built environment

Slipstream’s team of researchers, with support from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grants, will illuminate the future of energy productivity - both inside buildings and on the evolving grid. By partnering with DOE, our team will be on the front lines of needed change in the flexible building technology space which includes heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and lighting. This research will:

1. Improve the lives of people who live in manufactured housing. We will do this by reimaging heating and cooling in manufactured homes. Our team will evaluate new ways to design HVAC systems and ducts while keeping affordability a priority. 
2. Provide needed insights on the energy performance of new commercial building technology, smart grid impacts, and human factors. We will close the knowledge gap around building systems that integrate lighting, automated shades, and intelligent energy storage function. This will empower design teams and building owners to understand how these new technologies function, so they feel confident enough to install them. 
3. Build on our work to improve energy codes by supporting the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) as it identifies cost-effective ways to measure code compliance accurately. The IMT team will evaluate how closely real building performance matches the energy models.
