2.1 Introduction to Optimal Scheduling
This is course 2.1 of the Common Advanced Control Strategies module.
Optimal scheduling, including a shortened HVAC schedule, wider zone temperature setpoint deadband, and optimal start/stop, can achieve significant energy savings with low implementation cost. In this session, the concepts, application, and design of optimal scheduling will be introduced, including different HVAC system control modes: warm-up, cooldown, setback, and setup. Factors impacting the optimal start recovery time will be discussed, and optimal start implementation examples will be given. The session will also briefly touch on industry best practices for optimal start based on the ASHRAE Guideline 36. Finally, common issues related to the optimal scheduling setup, operation and maintenance will be discussed.
